Tomb Raider: Anniversary Retold

From Lara Croft Wiki

This article is non-canon

This article covers a subject that has been deemed definitively non-canon by either the creator or the Tomb Raider makers, and thus should not be taken as part of the actual Tomb Raider continuity. You have been warned.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary Retold is a fan project attempting to recreate the first Tomb Raider in a more faithful way than the official remake, Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Unlike prior (completed) remakes, both fan-made and official, Tomb Raider: Anniversary Retold will feature the levels of Tomb Raider: Unfinished Business and Croft Manor.

[edit] History

The project began in 2006, when a member of the Tomb Raider Search Engine forum, TombRaiderTim, advertised that he was remaking Tomb Raider: Anniversary. The first member to join the group was ggctuk, who offered to remake The Cistern and The Tomb of Tihocan. TombRaiderTim stopped working on the project, despite progress from various other members of the team.

Control of the team was split between Teeth, ggctuk and *PH*, with each making different levels. Ggctuk had suffered numerous crashes with his levels, and after the release of the first part of the project, left the project, citing both creative differences and possible future conflicts with one of the other project leaders.

[edit] Release

The game will be released in parts, and then a final compiled version of the game will be released, much like the official version of Tomb Raider: Anniversary on the XBox360. The first part, featuring Peru, was released on January 29, 2009.

[edit] Reception

The first part has received mixed criticism, with some citing that many of the rooms were empty in the first level, and the exterior of the Caves level was bland, while praising the fact that a remake was made more closely to the origianl Tomb Raider. From 1 July, 2009, Tomb Raider Anniversary Retold Part 1 has a score of 7.01 on trle.net and 7.8 on Lara's LevelBase.
